Dear Parents and Guardians:

Today, Friday, September 14, 2018, the Principals of Boothbay Regional High School and Boothbay Region Elementary School, responded to a verbal threat by a student, by placing both schools in “Shelter in Place.”  A student, who was absent from school, arrived at the high school at approximately 11:15 am.  The student was met outside the building by high school Principal Dan Welch.  The student told Principal Welch that they wanted to kill someone.  The principal returned to his school and immediately contacted the police.  The Boothbay Harbor Police located and apprehended the youth in the town parking lot on Route 27.  After the student was in police custody, Principal Welch and Principal Tess announced that their staffs could return to normal operations.

At no time were our students in any danger.  The incident took place outside the school buildings and was safely responded to by Principal Welch and the Boothbay Harbor Police Department.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 633-2874.

Sincerely yours;

Dr. Keith S. Laser, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
