Set For Success!

Thank you to Set For Success for keeping our students ready and equipped every school year!

COVID-19 may have kept “S4S-2020” masked, safely distanced and not able to meet at the YMCA this year, but it can’t keep us from from our mission of supplying each student with every teacher-required school supply — no matter their family’s income level!

For almost a decade, Set for Success has been the community “can’t miss experience” for every student attending school in AOS 98. We’ve become an annual phenomenon because of the successful synergy between local resources and schools; students and families; and organizations like the YMCA, Community Resource Council, Hannaford, Big Al’s, and this year’s Southport Island Association. Traditionally, Set for Success culminates in everyone coming together in August for just one day filled with unbridled excitement and hope for the future. Despite not being able to gather at the Boothbay Region YMCA this year, there are many people now working together behind the scenes to help provide for our students.

We’re super excited to have the Southport Island Association working in a “2020 partnership opportunity” with Set for Success. The Association has generously agreed to supply all Southport students with everything they need for school. Simultaneously, Boothbay Region’s Set for Success will be working closely with the remaining schools in AOS 98 to provide everything they'll need. Thanks to this massive effort, our schools will become the virtual home for our 2020 Set for Success. What an awesome partnership in these unprecedented times.

Educators are excited to be on board with Set for Success 2020 –even if they don’t know what form school will take in the fall. Teachers will fill and distribute student backpacks at their schools and find ways to make clothing boutiques available onsite.

Unfortunately, we’re experiencing another challenge imposed by COVID-19. Finances are stretched thin for many these days and donations are greatly reduced, forcing us to spend-down our resources from a year ago. We’re now hoping to replenish our funds so we don’t fall short on helping our kids. If you’d like to donate to Set for Success for this effort, any amount will be greatly appreciated. Please send your donation to: “Set for Success,” P.O. Box 43, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
