Important BRHS Update

Boothbay Region High School Family:

There was much work done by many individuals to ready our schools for opening this year. We knew the landscape would have to look different due to the impact of COVID-19 -everyone came together to do what is best to keep our students, staff and community as safe as possible. We have adapted and worked to learn the new landscape. We have planned for multiple scenarios. We are prepared to shift between in-person, distance learning and 100% remote learning throughout the school year.

I was incredibly proud with how quickly and smoothly our school jumped into action on Wednesday, following the established protocols to allow for contract tracing and providing team leaders the needed time to work to ensure all safety measures were taken to support our school community. If you were identified as a close contact of the person who tested positive you have been contacted and directed to quarantine. This was not an outbreak, but we acted with an abundance of caution. Our school officials have closely monitored this situation in collaboration with the Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC). Because of the protocols we have in place (masking, distancing, sanitizing, etc.), we are hopeful that there will not be secondary cases.

Ensuring the safety of all students and staff necessitated the temporary change. The Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor CSD custodian and maintenance staff have been working hard cleaning and disinfecting the entire building and all buses. BRHS will return to our previously set (Cohort A and B - In-person/Distance Learning days) mode of operation starting on Monday February 1st.

Cohort A (In-person Monday, Distance Learning - logged into class from home on Tuesday), Cohort B (Distance Learning - logged into class from home on Monday, In-person Tuesday) and Bath Voc students will be expected in-person following their set schedules beginning on Monday 2/1. All extra-curricular activities, including athletics, are cleared to resume following the established safety guidelines and protocols.

We have made the decision to postpone and reschedule BRHS Winter Carnival for after February break. BRHS Student Body President, Glory Blethen and the Student Council will keep you updated on the fun events they have planned.

Thank you again for your attention, hard work and commitment to doing your part to keep our schools as safe as possible. I wish you a great start to your Semester #2 classes!
